MAM Software today announced that it's made considerable reductions in the time it takes to publish data to its Autocat+ electronic parts catalogue. Thanks to the developments in its 'Automate' authoring process, MAM can now take information 'from supplier to factor' in as little as just two days.
"The entire process has been totally streamlined" explains Rod Field, MAM's Catalogue Development Manager. "Once received from the component supplier, the data is cleaned, processed and reviewed before being published online for our users to access. Typically, this process now only takes us around ten working days, but with good quality catalogue data provided by an OE or aftermarket supplier, it is possible to achieve the process in just two."
The benefits of such a quick turnaround are clearly evident as Field explains "From a motor factor's perspective, the reduction in data latency ensures that they have access to more up-to-date information. In January 2007 alone, we were able to publish almost 200 updates to a wide range of catalogue sections. Such enhancements increase the accuracy of parts identification and considerably improve a factor's chances of achieving first-time-fit."
Component suppliers benefit too, as Field is keen to point out. "The quicker turnaround time not only improves data quality, it also reduces the time to bring new products to market. Furthermore, Autocat+ is an efficient means of communicating product images, installation notes and hazard sheets to customers."
A growing number of suppliers have already realised this potential and are now providing MAM with improved quality data with greater frequency. "An increasing number of suppliers are now embracing this technology and are using it as an economical means of communicating important product information to their customers" says Field.
MAM is continuing to work with contributing suppliers to further improve the quality of data available to Autocat+ users. "We are working together in the best interest of the customers" concludes Field. "The key to a successful catalogue isn't just about having wide coverage. It's also about making sure that the product, fitment and technical information is up-to-date and accessible to its users."
